National Park Service created the first "standards" by way of their tree preservation bulletin series. NAA revised and adopted the first one of these for the industry in 1949, called tree bracing. NAA adopted and revised standards for pruning and lightning protection systems as well as part of the NAA standards. These eventually became the ANSI A300 standards.
