Dear TCIA Member,
If you do business in the Commonwealth of Virginia please be aware that effective May 1, Virginia OSHA (VOSH) extended what had been a “local emphasis program” for “tree felling and de-limbing activities” in their Tidewater and Central regions to the entire state. The guiding document can be accessed here.
We are aware of one member who has received an investigation at this point. The operation that drew VOSH attention was a mix of tree pruning, removals and other maintenance happening concurrently. Although it is too early for a citation to have been issued, the investigator’s chief concern was that all members of the crew did not have first aid/CPR cards. Since the requirement for all crew members to have CPR/first aid training resides solely in the Logging Standard, it is clear that VOSH’s Enforcement division still considers 1910.266 to be in play for all tree felling activities, at least until there is a separate arborist standard.
