TCIA's Rigging for Removal sets an unprecedented standard of excellence in field training for arborists. This program consists of a 56-minute, two-tape video and workbook for the arborist who wants to learn how to use rigging to make tree removal operations safer, more efficient and more profitable. One factor setting this program apart is the team assembled for it. Don Blair is a second-generation arborist and highly respected equipment specialist, lecturer and author of Arborist Equipment. Ken Johnson is the inventor of the Rope Brake™ and the Lowering Device™, a former redwood timber faller, and an arborist whose commercial business specializes in large, technical removals. Robert Phillips is a third-generation arborist as well as a noted innovator, author and lecturer. The new video approaches the subject comprehensively. In the course of removing the two trees, the video's tree team employed a wide variety of techniques and equipment, with techniques as simple as a single lowering line to as complex as a cross-line speedline. In some scenes, a helmet-mounted camera gives breathtaking views from the tops of trees, and furnishes the knot-tyer's perspective for the program's many knot-tying sequences. That perspective will make the difference between a young arborist struggling to learn a knot and mastering it quickly.
A comprehensive, 96-page illustrated Rigging workbook, available as part of this program, is a great way to reinforce the training from the videos. It contains six chapters, an extensive appendix of relevant data, a glossary of terms, and a full complement of training test questions for in-house training.

There are a number of ways to present our videos. We suggest:
- Show our videos to new employees before they ever set foot on a job site to avoid costly new employee injuries and document basic safety training.
- Present a video at regularly scheduled meetings. This ensures that employees receive training on a timely basis.
- A video can be shown, and a test administered, at impromptu meetings, such as on rainy days. Use the "show-up" time for which many companies pay wages.
- Show the appropriate video after an accident or near-miss, or to correct violations of ANSI Z133.1 safety requirements.
- ALWAYS follow up the video with on-the-job training.
- Use our Safety Improvement Action Plan for safety policy enforcement.
