Many arborists are required to earn continuing education units (CEUs) to maintain their credentials. Fortunately, Tree Care Industry Association programs, events and training opportunities make preserving your credentials easier than ever - and cheap, if you work for a TCIA member company.
The most obvious way to earn CEUs is to buy TCIA products outright and complete the course material. With manuals such as our TCI Pro Arborist Series and our Tree Care Academy program, you can quickly and easily earn your required ISA and CTSP CEUs from the convenience of your home. TCIA products cover a wide range of topics such as climber safety, aerial lift techniques, soil management methods, and even general plant health care techniques. There's something for every specialty!
Let’s Start Learning
Though purchasing TCIA products is unquestionably the most direct and efficient way to earn CEUs, there are other ways to accumulate them in small amounts. You can even earn a few of them for free! Check out the list below for tips:
- TCI EXPO: This annual conference combines the unparalleled value of a first class conference education with a trade show floor packed with hundreds of exhibitors. While you’re there, you can sign up for our training sessions to earn CEUs (our booklet will provide more details), or earn CEUs just by watching the live tree climbing demonstrations at the heart of the trade show floor! It doesn’t get much easier than that. We’re heading to Hartford, Connecticut for TCI EXPO 2014 - check back often to learn how you can maximize your education while you’re there. Read more.
- Winter Management Conference (WMC): Every February, TCIA and industry leaders travel to exotic locales to discuss business management, network and prepare for the new year. There are plenty of opportunities to earn CEUs while you’re there - check back often for more information about WMC 2015, which is headed to Cabo san Lucas, Mexico February 8 – 12. Read more.
- TreeWorker Safety Articles: Write a brief safety article for The TreeWorker's CTSP column and receive 2 CTSP CEUs! In order to qualify for CTSP CEUs, the selected article for publication must be 400-600 words in length and highlight your experiences with safety in arboriculture. Simply email your article proposal to Tchukki Andersen, staff arborist, at email@example.com and you will be contacted. The TreeWorker staff will evaluate and publish appropriate submissions for CEUs. Limit: 4 printed articles per year. Read more.
- TCI Magazine: The most widely-read periodical in the industry, TCI Magazine offers a chance to earn .25 CTSP CEUs via a quiz provided every other month. Simply fill out the quizzes, and return them to TCIA for scoring. TCI Magazine subscriptions are free, by the way, so you have nothing to lose! Read more.
