We have visited many beautiful islands over the years as part of our annual Winter Management Conference (WMC) program. Our travels often bring us in contact with the wonderful islanders, who, we have learned, often have unmet needs in their communities. To counteract this, TCIA aims to meet local needs through an annual “Give Back” campaign.
The “Give Back” campaign, which started at WMC 2012 in Curacao, encourages WMC participants to “adopt” a local school and provide them with much-needed supplies.
“The whole school shuts down when we get there, and they come out to see what we’ve brought,” said Diane Morgan, TCIA’s meeting planner and the staffer responsible for the community service project. “It’s like Christmas for them. They always get so excited to see what supplies they're getting!”
“I’m very grateful for WMC attendees who support this cause,” Morgan added. “It’s a great way for us to help meet a local need, and the students really appreciate it.”
For our third year, TCIA has chosen to adopt Columbus Primary School, and elementary and secondary school located in a relatively poor neighborhood near the Atlantis Resort. If you are planning on attending WMC 2014, we would like to ask you to help us supply Columbus Primary School with some of the items they need most.
No need to bring expensive items. We only ask that you bring along supplies that our children here in the states have access to every day, perhaps tucked away in the corners of your suitcase or carry-on luggage. Anything you want to give will be greatly appreciated by the students, and gently-used supplies are more than welcome.
