TCIA’s annual Winter Management Conference (WMC) 2014, which took place at Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island, Bahamas, enjoyed a record attendance of 484 this year. This figure includes 81 first-timers, and shatters the previous attendance record of 373, which was set during WMC 2007 in Aruba.
“We realized that we needed to attract a new group of people to WMC,” said Diane Morgan, TCIA Meeting Planner. “We wanted to go somewhere that was affordable, family-friendly, and easily recognizable. So, we made a conscious decision to go to a destination like Atlantis, so we could attract first-timers.”
WMC attendees spent five days networking, gaining vital skills and preparing for the year ahead with education sessions, discussions, and lectures delivered by industry veterans. “There’s something for everybody there,” Morgan said of the WMC 2014 program, which also featured safety panels, poolside forums, and various roundtable discussions.
When they weren’t tending to business matters, attendees had the chance to unwind by joining their colleagues on exclusive tours and recreational events. “Every year, we try to do something a little different, something that showcases what the island is about,” Morgan said. “So for Atlantis, we had a lot of activities centered on the dolphins, and snorkeling in the aquarium ruins - plus the regular tours such as deep-sea fishing and cruises.” Other events such as the WMC Super Bowl Party and the Voice for Trees Dinner and Auction were also very popular leisure activities, and enjoyed record attendance this year.
