No, not sick as in brown bottle fever, but sick as in S-I-C-K! The Career Fair is not only about interviewing for possible jobs in the tree care industry, it is about the loads of SWAG.*
(*SWAG: Stuff We All Get; or from the slang originating in the early 1800s for stolen goods or booty; possibly carried by a swagman, whatever the heck that is.)
All students who attend the Career Fair are treated to enormous amounts of enticing goodies from each of the sponsoring tree care companies, with the idea of attracting a new employee into their training programs. Also, door prizes are drawn from numbered tickets that each student gets as they enter the Career Fair. These drawings take place about once every 20 minutes all through the event. These are usually awesome prizes handed out for free just because “We Care”. (Or because we don’t want to haul the stuff back with us on the plane. Who knows?)
Some of the prizes from the 2012 SCD Career Fair were Camelback Hydration Systems, *GB MP3 players, 16GB digital cameras, high powered binoculars, posters of SRT tree climbing champion Drew Bristow from New Zealand and a digital microscope for all those teeny plant health care diagnosis’.
Door prizes at this year’s event will include, yes, the CamelBak Hydration System, a Garmin eTrex hand held GPS unit, Pentax 8x40 PCF Binoculars (check that tie in point!), a couple of fun Airzooka Air Cannons (hilarious!), some high tech HD video camera sunglasses (sweet!), and other random items. The Biggie prizes will be an GoPro HERO3 HD Camcorder! Nice!
The Career Fair begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday November 16th with door prizes being handed out left and right until the Fair closes around 11:30 a.m. Don’t miss this event. You’ll get free breakfast, free SWAG, and maybe even an awesome job in the tree care industry, if you dress and act like you’re on an interview, ‘cuz you are.
See ya there!
