TCIAF’s 17th Annual Student Career Days at TCI EXPO is coming up in November, in Charlotte, N.C., and I’m looking forward to seeing you at the show and, hopefully, at the competition at Freedom Park on Nov.15. Having competed in tree climbing competitions the last 22 years, my passion for climbing grows each year. I’m excited to share my insight on competing in our industry, and I’m honored to help you, the future leaders of our profession, enhance your knowledge and climbing skills.
It is a joy to plan each detail of the climb and wow the crowd with innovative techniques. As you prepare for Student Career Days, I’d like to share critical tips that help me in every competition.
- Take the time to organize all the gear you intend to use, so you are confident with it. Confidence will show in your movement and performance.
- Read and understand the rules, and know the criteria for how each event will be scored.
- It’s important to remember that this is meant to be a fun event, so relax and enjoy it – this well help you deliver a better performance, too.
After displaying your skills at Freedom Park, I hope you leave with a greater passion for competing – I believe you will agree with me that this is the best profession in the world. Few people will ever know the excitement we experience while climbing. Competing has made me a better person and a more effective professional.
I encourage you to take this opportunity to invest in yourself and learn new abilities to prepare you for success, as well as to develop your own unique style of climbing. Eventually, I anticipate seeing many of you compete at the International Tree Climbing Championship (ITCC) in coming years.
And be sure to take advantage of the first-class conference education while you’re at the show, since TCI EXPO is free for pre-registered students and their advisors. Check out live demonstrations, and win prizes and giveaways. Use this event to connect with like-minded individuals that can support your professional growth.
