Overview
This two-day course trains participants in the process of tree risk assessment. Those who successfully complete this course will be accredited as a Certified Tree Risk Assessor through the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the ISA (International Society of Arboriculture). This course should be attended by arborists who work in areas where risk assessment is needed to fulfill municipal, regional, provincial, or insurance company requirements. These areas include municipal or regional parks, golf courses, development and construction sites, utility corridors, highways, rights of way, riparian corridors, bicycle and hiking trails, greenways, and other public and private lands. The combination of classroom lectures and field work includes modules on tree biology, structural mechanics, risk theory and practice, reading tree conditions, assessing and assigning risk levels, and prescribing risk mitigation strategies. A comprehensive course manual published by the PNW Chapter will be sent to each student to read before the class. All participants must be ISA Certified Arborists. Your ISA certification number will be required upon registration. Registration is limited to 20 students. There is a written two and a half hour exam on the second day. Classroom sessions are held in the Upper Gallery of the Widener Visitors Center at the Morris Arboretum. This course carries 10 CEUs for ISA certified arborists. Fee: $595 (includes lunches)
