WCISA Urban Forest Pests: New & Old Enemies

When

Thursday, March 6, 2014
9:00am - 4:30pm

Overview

Date & Time:

Thursday, March 6th, 2014 / 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

About:

Several new troubling urban forest pests are spreading in Southern California: Polyphagous shot hole borer (PSHB) and the Goldspotted oak borer (GSOB) and others. With broad host lists and dramatic damage they threaten Bay Area urban forests. Arborists are often the first detectors and responders to new urban tree pests. This workshop presents the latest information on how to recognize and manage these threats. Scientists and arborists from Southern and Northern California will present first-hand experience of urban tree pests on hardwoods, conifers, palms and citrus. New techniques for pest diagnosis and hazard tree assessment will be presented and participants will receive a newly published sudden oak death management guide. This workshop will enhance your knowledge and skills while connecting you with a coalition of arborists sustaining Bay Area urban forests.
