Public Review
Directions for submitting comments:
1. Public comments must outline your objection, in detail, to a particular paragraph in the standard.
2. Public comments should provide alternative language.
3. Public comments should be accompanied by supporting material and/or illustrations where appropriate.
Public comments are submitted following the instruction for one of the two methods outlined on the cover page of the public review document. If you have problems with making comments or downloading the public review document, contact Bob Rouse at Rouse@TreeCareIndustry.org, the secretary of the ANSI A300 standards.
Suggested technique for submitting comments:
We suggest you consider submitting comments directly to your organization's A300 representative first. Your organization will use your comments to help draft their position. Your representative can then lobby directly for your organization's position at the ASC A300 meeting. This is a more powerful way to make comments. Here are the A300 committee members, their representatives, and the committee that forms their position:

Public Comments Periods are part of ANSI requirements for development of American National Standards.
According to ANSI procedures:
Notification of standards development
Notification of standards activity shall be announced in suitable media as appropriate to demonstrate provision of opportunity for participation by all directly and materially affected persons. At the initiation of a project to develop or revise an American National Standard, notification shall be transmitted to ANSI using the Project Initiation Notification System (PINS) form, or its equivalent, for listing in Standards Action. A PINS form may be submitted, but is not required, at the initiation of a project to reaffirm or withdraw an American National Standard.In addition, proposals for new American National Standards and proposals to revise, reaffirm, or withdraw approval of existing American National Standards shall be transmitted to ANSI using the BSR-8 form, or its equivalent, for listing in Standards Action in order to provide an opportunity for public comment. The comment period shall be one of the following:
- A minimum of thirty days if the full text of the revision(s) can be published in Standards Action;
- A minimum of forty-five days if the document is available in an electronic format, deliverable within one day of a request, and the source, URL or an E-mail address from which it can be obtained by the public is provided to ANSI for announcement in Standards Action; or
- A minimum of sixty days, if neither of the aforementioned options is applicable.
Such listing may be requested at any stage in the development of the proposal, at the option of the standards developer.
Tree Care Standards Review Committee Comments
TCIA members can submit their comments to the TCIA Tree Care Standards Review Committee at any time. Please note standards are revised on a five-year cycle, so it may be impossible for the committee to address your comments immediately, but they will be held until the next revision cycle begins.

System Failure / Success Reporting Form
The Tree Care Standards Review Committee is also collecting data on Cable, Bracing and Guying systems as well as Lightning Protection Systems. They are looking for documented cases of both failure and success.
For example, if a cabling system you either installed or have access to survived a wind storm, with documented wind speeds, report it to us! Also, report to us if a cabling system you either installed or have access to fails, for whatever reason. All submissions are strictly anonymous. Data will be used solely for the purpose of helping guide future standards. Email Bob Rouse at rouse@treecareindustry.org to obtain a reporting form for system failure/success (PDF). |
