Special Announcement

TCIA Opens Search for New President

The Board of Directors of the Tree Care Industry Association has begun work to find a successor for President Mark Garvin, who plans to retire in early 2018. He has served the association admirably for more than two decades, and as president since 2009. The Board is leading the search and intends to oversee a smooth leadership transition during the next six months.

"Mark has expertly piloted the association to significant growth and program expansion during his tenure, leading a talented management team in the delivery of strong and consistent value for TCIA members," Peter Sortwell, Chair of the Board of Directors, said in a statement. "The board will miss Mark's leadership and is thrilled that he will assist in our transition."

"It has been an honor to lead this association and this great industry alongside our dedicated TCIA team," said Garvin in a statement. "Twenty-one years ago when I came aboard the National Arborist Association, we were a much smaller organization with a much more limited reach.

Tree Care Industry Magazine and TCI EXPO were relatively new. There was no Accreditation, no CTSP safety certification, no Voice for Trees political action committee, no Arborist Safety Training Institute, no workforce development initiative, and no regional outreach coordinators around the country. Next year, TCIA will celebrate 80 years of advancing tree care businesses. As we work together to write the next chapter in our shared history, I am confident that the association and the industry will continue to grow."

The Tree Care Industry Association's mission is to support the commercial arborist and promote the tree care profession. TCIA has more than 2,300 member companies who recognize stringent safety, performance and ethical standards. Since 1938, TCIA has been working to improve the profession of commercial tree care and support, promote and educate our members so that they may be more successful in their activities.

The timeline for the search is expected to take two to three months. We welcome candidates from our TCIA membership community or qualified referrals.
