Plant Health Care Workshop

Come join world famous Dr. Mike Raupp and Sylvia McNeill as they teach this full-day workshop that combines all aspects of Plant Health Care (PHC) for both technicians and managers, as well as live demonstrations of PHC techniques.
PHC services are based on combining the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) with proactive tree care management.
TCIA's Plant Health Care full-day workshop combines all aspects of Plant Health Care (PHC) for both technicians and managers, as well as live demonstrations of PHC techniques. Novices will learn about PHC concepts and methods, while managers can compare and evaluate their company’s PHC program against the latest industry recommendations. Rainbow Treecare Scientific Advancements will demo their tree injectable products.

Subjects will include:
• PHC basics – includes a basic review of tree biology and items that affect tree health and vigor such as construction injury and stress caused by site conditions. Discussion will include concepts such as key pests and key plants.
• Monitoring – includes the reasons to monitor and how to monitor including the use of degree day calculations and phonological plant indicators.
• Diagnosis – includes the identification of signs and symptoms on various parts of the tree and the process of linking symptoms and signs to specific pest groups. Diagnosis case studies will be used.
• Insect Management – includes key insect pest case studies. The focus will be on management tactics and strategies.
• Disease Management – includes key disease case studies. The focus will be on management tactics and strategies.
• Pesticide Application Guidelines - includes major classes of insecticides, their modes of action, reduced risk insecticides, and new EPA labeling guidelines to protect beneficial insects.
• Abiotic Disorders
Attendees will receive a copy of Tree Care Academy "Plant Health Care Technician Manual" plus "Managing Insects and Mites on Woody Plants: an IPM Approach" (together, a $194.94 value), as well as lunch.

Cost is $105 for TCIA members; $140 for non-members.
